Guys, this portrait stuff is hard, where's my ball?
My favorite subject from the Golden Retriever Rescue Education and Training (GRREAT) picnic. Meet John.
He was so much fun to work with that I'm having trouble narrowing down to a few proofs to show.
This dog was such a good model that his first picture was made at 12:47:31 and his last at 12:496 and I ended up with 43 keepers!
I was really trying not to keep the dogs in the tent (10x10 EZ-up) for too long since it was in the low 90's, but none got in and out as fast as John.
This was my first time out in my new digs. I had a shoot through umbrella clamped to a rail in the tent with an SB-800 powered by a Digital Camera Batter 40W pack. I used the tent as a giant softbox and the flash for a little fill, but left the front and rear walls off. The BG was clamped to the back rail and rear corners so I didn't have to mess with stands in the way. Essentially, the BG made up the rear wall, floor and "front porch." A couple pieces of fiber board just in front of the tent saved my knees from the gravel in the parking lot. I was hand-holding the D3 with a 24-70 and an SU800 flash commander.
Eventually, I think I'll make a new digital BG with colors sampled from John's eyes.
How could anyone not love this dog. Gorgeous Jim. You are really showing these dogs to share with us their incredible beauty and dispoition. Love it and keep them coming. Big congrats Jim on all the fine work you are doing both in your wonderful photography and for our awesome furry friends !!!
Thanks Judy. Thankfully, this one has a home. This was a charity event to raise money for GRREAT. 15 portrait sessions in just under 4 hours. We were pooped at the end.
