Hi folks ... have not posted a lot in the past weeks .
And longer no bear image , so here you go. A very tight portrait of this species , image was taken on the shore of Kuril Lake .
Hope you like it .
Canon EOS 1Dx II
EF 200 - 400 IS L at 560 mm
HH
F 5,6 ; Iso 5000 ; 1/2000 sec ; man exp and auto iso . with hindsight a bit more DOF would not have hurt here .
Processed with C1 and PSCC 2020 ; for my circumstances a large crop to 50 % of FF as i had too much space on LHS , image height is a shot .
Thanks for looking and commenting to my previous posting
This is a nice tight portrait of the bear Andreas, I like the 3D feel to it and the water drops on the snout. The colours and detail are great. Agree the DOF could be more. T F S.
Hi Andreas, and firstly thank you for the very kind words on the Walrus image.
I don't mind the tight crop as it focuses the viewer, but the 500 with the 1.4 would have delivered a better, workable file as the cropping I feel has harmed the IQ. Perhaps a trade off, less SS and more DoF but I think you needed to be say f/9 here as you were shooting wide open here. I'm guessing the FP was between the eyes, however as the nose is angled I would have moved the FP down a bit more so snout to eyes were in focus and let the ears drift off.
Just a thought, but going a little warmer, loosing the cool blue in the nose and getting a bit more tonal range in the mid range fur adds some more body, albeit working with only 256 colour is less than ideal, however...
All the best for Xmas and New Year, Mein mittelgrauer Sockenfreund.
Thanks Steve and Sanjeev for your kind comments , much apprecaited .
Steve i know the technical shortcomings of this file .... i agree the IQ has suffered a tiny bit . But still holds good enough for posting here ! I am actually ok with the slightly cooler look .... but your mid tone edit worked well . AS said myself ...more DOF would have been better .
All the best to you too .... for Xmas and the New Year .
