    Default Rose-ringed Parakeet (Psittacula krameri)

Taken in Keoladeo National Park near Bharatpur, Rajasthan India, a truly fantastic place to visit. A day travelling round the reserve by rickshaw is a novel way of taking photographs and sometimes the birds are quite approachable. These beautiful birds are often seen in groups - but they and the Alexandrine Parakeet can be noisy! This one was watching it's mate who was examining a hole in an adjacent bough.

Lovely image, beautiful bird, nicely shown. Great perch, nice color and detail on the bird, complimentary background. I find the foliage at the top a bit distracting. Thank you for sharing, Jon.

We have a big flock of these living in South Manchester now - you certainly hear them before you see them!

I like your composition, nice perch, colours look good on my screen, I might be tempted to lose the yellow straw close to the beak

nice frame Jonathan and a handsome bird, he chose the perfect spot on the perch too. I wish the bill and the head had cleared the shoulder. Agree the top vegetation is distracting and the image looks a touch dark on my screen. maybe you can also squeeze more feather details by reducing NR, the edges are sharp but the feather texture could be better

Thanks for your comments, I expected you wouldn't like the extraneous background detail but for me this is natural so I left it there to provide a little context. I have subsequently found an image with the beak more clearly delineated, I too wish this one was more readily seen.
I will check out any noise reduction I may have used - thanks for the observation Arash, I am still discovering "new" or anyway alternative techniques and algorithms in processing the Olympus files.

    Jon:

Lovely bird, and setting. Agree with others, evict the Xmas tree bulb, rest of the upper foliage is Ok for me. My first impression other than the beautiful scene was that the contrast on the bird was just a bit soft, and I think some selective work there, very small amount, would help him pop a bit, and address Arash's point about the feather detail.

From a comp. standpoint, I might consider a version with him just a bit to the left in the frame, not so centered.

    Cheers

    Good critiques above.
I would definitely evict (as Randy says, the Xmas tree bulb!).
I would brighten the image and add contrast. Also would add a point of blacks to the neutrals.
I love the curve in the tail feathers!
This would look great with a bit more PP!

Hi Jon, to me the image looks a bit dark and needs a bit more separation in terms of colour between subject and BKG. You have the detail there, but agree with Arash, it requires more. Took the liberty of removing the destarvcting elements and xmas babble.

For me Jon, this has been the best image you have presented since jumping ship.

Steve good job on the parakeet but the background looks like a set up - totally manufactured not natural to my eye. It is almost impossible to get a background like that in the Indian jungles.

Jon, it was more to illustrate what you have in the subject and lost in the OP. BKG not fussed, it’s whatever you want.

Sorry, just quickly sent from R Stewart concert, that’s dedication.

What a tail! Very nice frame of this parakeet. The vertical framing is right on. Nice detail on the bird. Background looks right on as well.
