The festive season has begun and I am so happy to see that some of you still manage to process an image or two and participate in our forum
Due to lack of time I have - once again - resorted to searching through my folders, thought I would share another B/W conversion to see what you think.
Image was taken in the Kruger Park about a year ago. My subject was walking on a tar road which did not make for a very appealing frame, therefore decided to try and conceal the man-made element to some extent by going monochrome.
Almost FF. Lighting conditions were not great yet I could not resist taking a few shots, really love the species and find their facial expressions very appealing. This hyena had seen a herd of impala resting and she seemed very tempted, but without backup it would have been a waste of time... so she walked away.
Processed in LR and PSCC. Not my best image but I quite liked the pose and uncluttered background. I must say the subject looks quite good in colour but the speckled grey-blue tar road spoils it for me.
Hope you'll be so kind to share your thoughts on this, be it of a technical nature or just aesthetics. I won't be offended if you don't like it
Many thanks for your kind comments on my previous images, I appreciate every word. Hope you have a great week ahead!
Techs:
Nikon D5
Nikon 500 F4
ISO 2500
F6.3
1/1600s
PS What looks like a halo around the hyena's ears is actually fine white hairs - thought I'd clarify that before anyone questioned it

As soon as i saw it I realised why you had made a mono! ...It was a good decision, I like most aspects of the processing, my only suggestion would be to add a little more canvas to the top, I thin it would make the viewer think it was nearer to eye level.
Hi Gabriela ... a nice conversion and you saved the image .... relatively good by your way of editing .
Like the pose of the hyena and the look to the side . Well composed and the tones and contrast are working well .
Really digging this one. The conversion is done very well. The road is way less more noticeable. Great pose and facial expression on this one. Nice framing as well.
Another cool conversion Gabriela, and great choice on the subject, as the B/W approach just adds to the image rather than just a conversion which is right. Agree on more above.
