    Default Bare-throated tiger heron

Taken in Costa Rica from a boat.
The tiger heron walked up the bank as our boat drifted by. As he peered over the bank at us, I was able to get this.
    Canon 1 DX 600mm v3
ISO 1600 f4.0 SS 1/800. Handheld and shot in portrait orientation. Thank goodness for image stabilization!
Small crop, sliders in LR, NR to BG and sharpen JPEG. Cloned a small fly off the throat.
Comments and critiques always appreciated and learned from with thanks,

You've nailed this one, Gail! The symmetry, the pose and the colors are all top-notch! No nits from me, just wish the watermark had my name on it

Whoa! This is great. Love that pose and the vertical framing. The killer background is great as well. Very nice.

Killer pose, comp and idea in general...
A tack sharp beak tip would have put this one over the top....

Couldn't get any better as a theme shot. Or any shot. Great pose and symmetry. Almost looks like a building spire.

How cool! Tremendous visual impact! You did well to flip the camera over to vertical, not many have that instinct or situational recognition to do so. You must be pretty darn happy with this one

Hey Gail, what a interesting perspective... love it. Usual quality of techs and colors in your images. Perfect symmetry. Thank you for sharing.

    Gail:

If there ever was an image that screamed for portrait orientation, this is it! He looks like some type of alien beast.

    Very fun capture, well executed.

    Congrats
