    Default Male Kestrel

Here is another portrait, this time, of the male kestrel. We caught this handsome boy just before the sun went behind storm clouds. He was very skittish despite using vehicle as a blind, a few clicks and he bailed. Light angle wasn't optimal but the light was soft enough to make this a keeper

    Hope you like it

Hi Arash, techs spot on as always. I wonder if you have a horizontal of this image? Looking at the image my first thought was that a horizontal might be a better composition. Thank you for sharing.

    Arash:

Dynamic pose for a "perched " bird. Soft background with harmonious colors. Yes to light angle comment, but it still works well.

I appreciate Joe's point about the crop, but because of the angle of gaze and the vertical wing extension and vertical perch, I think the portrait crop works well here.

    Cheers

Love the fanned tail. Techs spot on, of course. Portrait presentation works for me.

Hi guys thanks but horizontal doesn’t work IMO. (This was cropped form horizontal). His wings are up and he is standing tall this portrait crop

    thank you all

I like the kestrel's pose. Great detail and head turn as well. Comp. works for me, horizontal would be slightly unbalanced I think. Not crazy about the light, but at least there are no harsh shadows, particularly on the bird's face. Overall, very nice, Arash - no surprise there!

Very nice frame. You have me wanting to hop on a plane and visit Dave again!!
Great BG and I love the pose.
The light angle is not perfect but image still works and the face is free of shadows. That light angle has given a nice backlit effect to the beautiful rufous tail feathers.
