    Captured image last month on a garden trail behind visitors center at Bosque del Apache. C&C welcome.

    D500, Sigma 150-600mm C @ 600mm, 1/2000s, f 6.3, Handheld, ISO 500.
    Did a bit of eye work.

    Nice head angle, eye work looks good, well exposed, with enough texture in the bg to give some sense of depth.

    I might try a version with the brightness toned down a tiny bit.

    Very nice Geoffrey! I totally agree with Randy's critique. I think more room to the right would also help with the comp. Love the view of the feet.

    I agree image is too bright to me.

    Ditto the brightness issue! Light is quite harsh.
    Ann and I had a lot of fun shooting these guys when we were in Bosque.

    Most things are already mentioned below but I think the bird itself looks quite good. Nice curious pose and eye contact. The time of day and a close background was your main issues here.

    Yes, I agree with he folks above, plus i wish the top left part of the BG was more textured - it just abruptly becomes smooth directly behind the bird's head. Sharp, and a great look at the eye. My favorite sparrow species - always a joy to see!!
