    Default Bosque Morning Death

That's the name Artie gave, in a recent blog, to the condition that Geoffrey and I experienced on three of our four days at Bosque del Apache a few weeks ago: clear morning sky and, in our case, NE breeze. Far from ideal for photographing white birds in flight. This was the scene at 6:34 am on our second (cold) morning. Conditions aside, we did have a good trip and came home with some keepers.

D500, Nikon VR 16-80 f/2.8-4.0, @ 25mm, ISO 2500, 1/500s @ f/9 manual. I avoided sharpening to minimize halos around the birds, but I do see some halos as well as compression artifacts. FF cropped to pano.

Very cool image, Bill. Nice groupings of the geese, as well their refection in the water. Well shown is the lighter right sunrise side, and the left still holding the darker blue. Excellent crop.

Great to see so many birds, comforting to know we have some left. I also like it cropped to the dark patch, simplifies the image.

Both versions work for me. There seems to be a bit of dodging bleeding around the geese and grasses on the initial post? Other than that, very nice silhouetted goose flock fly-by!

I like both versions. Bosque Death, NW winds on clear mornings can actually be great in the pre-dawn. But once the sun comes up you are pretty much dead meat ...
