Folded wing position is usually not my cup of tea, but I like this image since is shows the under wing details quite well. This is an adult white-tailed kite. These birds are not only small but they are incredibly skittish to presence of humans. Impossible to photograph unless they are mating or taking care of the young. I used my 600 + TC + high res. body (D850 or D500) to get the maximum possible reach. Interestingly these combos give the same reach as my ex Canon 1DX II + 600 + 2X TC III which I often used for photographing kites . of course the Nikon combo focuses a lot easier with f/5.6 combination and has an easier time pulling off tack sharp files given the 1.4X vs. 2X. The D500 in particular is great for kites because of its speed and buffer size compared to D850. Stay tuned for my D500 ...
