    Default "Photocopy"

    Hello Friends,

Here's another image for you from the archives, this time two lion youngsters. But first a little ' story ' to go with it, I need to explain the title

Some years back a lady arrived the pharmacy counter, accompanied by her cute two year old twins who both had flu. While the pharmacist was busy attending to them someone else pitched up and kept staring at the little ones... I greeted this man and asked how I could help but he was fascinated by the twins to such an extent that he could not take his eyes of them. I then waved to get his attention and eventually he turned towards me with a big smile, pointed out at the babies and said in Isizulu : "Awww...look here! Photocopy!!!" We all laughed and the babies were both smiling, it was such a sweet moment

This image reminded me of that particular situation and therefore the title. Frame captured in August 2014 at a private game reserve nearby. My companions and I were in a game vehicle observing a small pride of young lions waiting for their mom, and with this image I tried to capture the expression of "longing" on their faces.

Hope you enjoy this, it has its shortcomings and the framing might be a little tight but that's all I could do at the time. We were off road, close to a drainage line and a little stuck in that particular spot, surrounded by cubs and did not want to move around and frighten them. And yes Mom eventually arrived after a few hours and walked right past me ( I was seated at the back of the truck ). Never been so close to a lioness in my entire life, and she looked huge... The interaction between her and cubs was just awesome, unfortunately some images are not great because of the vegetation and lighting conditions/shade. Nevertheless I do have a few frames to show you, some have been posted before as B/W conversions.

Hope you all have a wonderful week-end,

    and here are the techs:

    Hi Gabriela,

What a great story, and I think you captured the expression you were after beautifully. Excellent complimentary background, and I like the crop.

Very nice portrait. Like the pose and the lion in the background. Details look great. The expression on the lion's face is pretty neat as well.

No reservations from me Gabriela I think this is a wonderful image, I like the colours details and I do indeed like the cub in the background.

A good narrative Gabriela, perfect DoF and the PP is spot on, with some great tonal range & depth. Personally I think having the second cub could be considered 'marmite' to the overall image, but that is just my take. I am glad you are posting more.

    Thank you so much Steve!

Almost chose the "marmite" title, changed my mind because the image reminded me so much of the 'photocopy' story:)

Your thoughts are much appreciated as always,

    Have a lovely evening,

Lovely image, a pleasure to gaze and ponder. Not sure what Steve means that the second cub isn "marmite" knowing that it is a English food spread I think, but I like the second cub. Thank you for sharing, Gabriela.

Thank you Jo! So kind of you, much appreciated:)

We call "Marmite" something that might go either way, as in "some will love it and others dislike it"

Hi Gabriela — This works perfectly for me. Loved the soft colours , and the second lion also adds IMO , might not be everyone’s cuppa .

Nice details and well framed , enjoyed viewing this image.

    TFS !

A super shot Gabriela, the sharpness, the tonal range and colours are spot on. I don't mind the second lion in the BG at all.
