This drake was skimming the water in the hopes to snag some vegetation close to the surface.

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/400s., f/5.6, ISO 1600, natural light, handheld, almost FF (cropped a bit top and right to better balance the comp), a few flecks in the water removed. NR to the BG and FG.

A great study of this fine bird, POV makes it.

Lovely shot Dan, very pastel. I like the way ducks swim along filtering the water and leaving that trail of bubbles.

Lovely colours, lovely POV. Looking good with nice detail. The trail of bubbles and head position are neat.

I'm such a fan of hella detailed headshots, and I would love to call this one my own. Beautiful color and detail and just the right amount of action to make it interesting. A winner......

Beautiful Details. Love the image, low perspective.

I am interested to see if this image would have been better with a bit of fill flash - adding catch light to the bird.

Would love a frame like this one. The detail is great. The colors are right on as well. Very beautiful duck.

    Daniel:

Lovely for all the reasons mentioned. I do like low POV shots, and this certainly fits that category.

You were working with really shallow dof with this combo, and it appears that the cheek is just a bit anterior to the focus point.

    The bubbles are great!

    Cheers
