Default Cute, or a deadly killer?

Everyone who sees a big cat cub always says AHH, but hidden under that cute, cuddly exterior is a 'killing machine' and a built in look after number one mode.

We had been photographing this pride 30 minutes prior, when the females suddenly disappeared and subsequently took down an Impala, then the cubs were off, it's feeding time... Very little was left of the carcass, only the steaming green vegetation the Impala had consumed, the rest had been devoured by the pride. The pride then split, with the cubs finishing off remnants and playing with the bones. Here even at this early stage, you can see the retractable claws put into good use, surgically sharp, and a grip like crampons.

Trying to get food off my Jack Russell is hard enough bet you'd be putting your arm at risk with this one :-).
The claws and look make this one.

Love the expression from this lion cub, super timing Steve! Whew, no messing about with this youngster when he grows up

Superb POV and nice framing. Really like the visible claws but also those ears pointing back, this chap means "business"... Nice textures in the fur ( even when so small a lion cub's fur is a little coarse) and colours look very natural.

Given the 'grassy' background I think F5.6 a wise choice, well exposed too, PP work effortless... as usual

Truly enjoyed viewing, thank you so much for sharing - it must have been an awesome experience for you, spending time with the entire pride

    Warmest regards,

Thank Gabriela, old, but gold, however there is just so much more the latest software pulls out, so worth the revisit.

I think I could have squeaked a bit more DoF, exposure, well nothing has changed after all these years, you just need to trust your Histogram.

Hope you have a relaxing night for once!

BTW I was hoping this image may have teased Andreas out and for him to post some of his new Africa shots??????

    True, Steve, old but gold

Yes with hindsight you could have squeezed more DoF, but more NR for the BG would have been needed, not sure how old is this image and did we have the 'tools' then, which we have now

Not sure what 'relaxing' means, LOL. Only when I'm on BPN I keep still

My guess is, Andreas is preparing some stunners, where are you Boetie????

    No, its a 1DX

did we have the 'tools' then
Yes, but the the sliders we called something else, with perhaps less refinements and options, compared with what is available now. PS is such an awesome tool, but I would say 99% of folk only scratch the surface with it's real capabilities and what it is able to deliver.

Nice view of this little lion. The lion may become a deadly killer. The prey is a bonus. Nice detail.
