This is a Eurasian species that wanders to the West Coast each fall, but they're usually discovered in areas that aren't conducive for photography. This bird was the opposite, touching down on a public
beach not farm from my home.Pushing too close on vagrant is a bad idea since they're of such great interest to birders, but I'm a force at belly crawling and trust my ability to read birds, even with
birders watching from behind me!
For those that haven't seen my birding and photo blog, I present more the this bird and the Hudsonian from yesterday on that platform. You can check it out here: http://thespeckledhatchback.blogspot.com/

Man you're nailing these Godwits! The sea foam is such a beautiful touch. Sharpness, HA and pose are all great. My only nit is the dark band intersecting with the bird's back and head. Dodging it slightly will make the image a lot cleaner IMO. Awesome work Dorian!
It's been a good godwit week for you. This one is also superb, The head angle is perfect, the breaking foam is positioned beautifully, and the raised foot is a huge plus. The only (very slight) negative for me is the dirty look about the base of the bill.
Tomorrow: juvie black-tailed!
with love, artie
