    Anhinga stretching at sunset

This image was created on October 23, 2019 down by the lake near my home at Indian Lake Esates. I used the handheld Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS lens with the Sony FE 2.0x teleconverter (at 1200mm) and the AF King, the Sony Alpha a9 Mirrorless Digital camera body. ISO 50. Exposure determined by Zebras with ISO on the rear dial: 1/4000 sec. at f/13 in Manual mode. AWB at 6:36pm about 15 minutes before sunset. Left Zone Continuous/tracking AF was active at the moment of exposure.

To learn the story behind the creation of this image and see three other versions from the series, see the blog post here.

As for the image, don't be shy; all comments are welcome.

    with love, artie

ps: 1200mm handheld is a trip for this old man :)

Image design is very nice. In my Opinion If the neck not intersecting the feet , then it would have made it much better.

    I like the colors.

Wow, this is pretty intense... I like it, at first the lack of separation bugged me, but it
actually makes it a better abstract, not really clear what you are looking at.
    Nice.

I like this silhouette...something different with the red tones.... there is a lot of fringing and ghosting around the edges which is distracting a bit for me :)

The colors are stunning, and the bird is nicely positioned in the frame. I do see some fringing, so that's one consideration.

Amazing, just grabs your attention, visual sculpture.
Sony are giving me an itch just hoping Nikon gets off their arse pretty quick.

This is lovely! The colors are great and I love the bird's pose. Agreed with the points made above on the fringing. I like the cloud that's cutting the sun in half. Very unique frame Artie!

    Something different for sure!
I like the way the water horizon appears to cut the sun in half.
2 things bug me-I think the perch you set up is not very pretty. I would put something else up!
It looks OK with a silhouette but the daytime pics of this perch bug me. (I am fussy, I know!)
and I wish the cloud in RUC was not there.
I love the wing stretch and neck stretch.
I would like about 2% more canvas on LHS of frame .

PS the time should be 6:36 PM not am if this was a sunset shot. You have written am.

Works for me - the fringing around the bird is unavoidable as far as I'm aware, and actually gives a nice rim-light. Great to see something different

Love the color on this one. Neat pose. The sun right behind the bird is a big plus.

Krishna. I agree. Dan, thanks! Arash and Dorian, the color fringing and ghosting are inevitable when you point a big lens at the sun. Tim, Thanks! I loved my Nikon gear. Thanks to you too Aditya and Mikey. Gail. Thanks. No water horizon -- that is a thin cloud. As for the perch, I do not love the horizontal part but the birds do! I am gonna try to erect some wider ones but doing so is a physical challenge due to the weight and the distance through the much :) 2% more on the left side would be about a four-pixel sliver :) Good catch on the time. Lastly, thanks John.

the color fringing is from the optics and the sensor, it shouldn't be this bad. might be correctable in RAW conversion...

Thanks Arash, How would I try to correct that in C-1?
