    Attached Images Attached Images

Immature Brown Pelican -- Fort Desoto

This image was created on September 29, 2019, the second morning of the recent Fort DeSoto IPT. I used the Induro GIT 304L/FlexShooter Pro-mounted Sony FE 600mm f/4 GM OSS lens, the Sony FE 1.4x teleconverter, and the the 61-MP monster, the Sony Alpha a7R IV Mirrorless Digital Camera Body. ISO 400. Exposure determined by Zebras with ISO on the rear dial: 1/1000 sec. at f/7.1 in Manual mode was about +1/3 on the analog scale. AWB at 8:16am on a clear, sunny morning.

If you would like to check out the SONY RAW file for this image, click here and scroll down to the offer.

After leaving Canon after 35 years and going to Nikon in January 2017, I have now committed 100% to SONY.

Hi Artie, wonderful bird, I love pelicans. My first impression opening the thread was that the bird looked crunchy. Maybe the difference from the 61mp file with more fine detail than what I am used to looking at. Thank you for sharing.

P.S. Do you think there is ever a point when too many pixels and placed on a sensor?

Thanks, Joe, I agree that the JPEG looks crunchy. It was barely sharpened ... I will let Arash perhaps explain why. I love the IQ of the master files so no, at this point I am not thinking that I am working with too many pixels ...

ps: when I get back from the dentist I will add an unsharpened JPEG.

Very nice, very detailed, a bit crunchy...
A lot of new shooters where I live on Sony gear, the new 200-600 seems popular.
Have yet to see a good flight photo by any of them.
Maybe in time, but they miss all the flight shots us Nikon guys get standing right next to them....

Funny thing is I did some vultures with the 2-6 with the a7r IV and not many were sharp. Going back to the a9 almost everything was sharp. But with the a7r IV/1.4X/600 GM most everything was sharp. I will do more flight with the 2-6 with both cameras ....

    Looks awesome unsharpened!
    Colors and light are wonderful.
I love the detail in the white belly. Comp is very solid.

the repost is better, I'd use smart sharpen (legacy, more accurate) amount 100 radius 0.5, it should make it look better.

When posting at small size an image like this will look the same no matter which camera it was taken with...impossible to tell differences.

the light and the blues are very nice.
