I've been back to my usual perch on the shore in my hometown, in an effort to get a better image of this bird, which is very difficult to get close to. I would love to get a shot with a nice clean BG, but, to date, this has been negative. At least the BG shown here does show this beautiful wader in it's natural habitat.

Who needs a clean background when you can get such a good low POV, just the right amount of foreground seaweed, low sun, good sand, good detail, and to top it off a food morsel in his beak.

Warm light on an interesting subject is wonderful. Feeding behavior is good as well. Exposure is really good and detail is pretty good. Background is really distracting though, and the disinterested downward gaze is tough.

I like the light and the pose. I agree with the background not being ideal but some times it is what it is.

I am thinking do we need to have more of the dark stuff in the foreground ?

The light sure was nice. Nice view of the curlew as well. The background is what it is.

Great bird but agree the BG is a bit busy.
    IQ looks good.
You are really doing well with the new gear!

Thanks guys, appreciated...Love the new gear Gail...Getting so much better shots, and the weight of the lens allows me better control on BIF. The 2x on the lens is good for perched birds, but difficult for BIF, but usable.
