Welcome David nice image love the straight on stare.Could use some room mostly on the top and left side. Just to tight and some noise in the background that is distracting.Love the green background also the band at the top distracts intersecting the owls head. May have been possible to eliminate depending on your perspective. TFS and would like to see more.

Welcome to BPN, David. Very nice head on stare from this beauty. For me the crop is a bit tight on the sides and top. Colors look good and you have a beautiful defused light.

Hi David and welcome to BPN,

A beautiful bird for a first post. As it is not a wild bird I demand a higher standard though. The stare and those orange eyes are beautiful and you got some nice details, but the bird seems overshrapened and there is a lot of noise. I would go back to the RAW-file, apply less sharpening and do a round of NR. I like the background though and the comp is good even is it could be a little less tight. Must have been a memorable moment to get so close to an owl of this size and I think you have a special image eitherway.

Thanks for all the comments. Gives me stuff to think about.
RAW conversion processing in this image was guided by suggestions found in
The Photographers' Guide... so, not sure for a 3200 ISO image how much more I can do
    about the noise level?

Love those eyes. A little tight in the frame for me. The vertical framing works very well.
