Captured this at Old HIckory Dam where a lot of heron feed!!! This gave me a great opportunity to practice my panning!! Nikon D300 with 300mm 2.8, 1/800 at 5.6, -1 1/3 EV, 0 flash, ISO 200 at 600mm, Gitzo tripod used.
Very nice light and BG. I would put the bird a bit lower in the frame and it would have been great if he would have flown toward you with the wings either up or down. Do you have some frames you made earlier in this series? Keep them coming!
Nice bg! I agree that the wing position is less than ideal, on the other hand, I never knew the top of the leg was that color. I think the bird could have saved it for you if he had only looked your way.
Great BG and even light. I would not do flight at ISO 200; consider 400 or 800 ISO with your camera body. You'll get sharper results with the resulting faster shutter speed and the noise is easily managed in PP. Thanks for posting!
Fairly sharp and a lovely, lovely BKGR. You need to learn to try for a better wing position (wings up or wings down) and to make the images when the bird is flying towards rather than away from you.
Keep practicing!
ps: Good ISO advice by Doug!

Thanks for the comments and suggestions on ISO!!! It will definitely be used. Wing position will also be kept in mind :-). I wish he had been flying toward me but unfortunatley they were feeding up and down the dam and there was only the vantage point on the side to shoot. If they flew toward me it was brief and I am not that fast yet!!! haha...Now I did have one land in front of me and I will post that one today....see what you think!
