Hello John,
Another interesting image of the species and I quite like the way the White-tail Buck stands out from tall vegetation, the dark BG is really nice. Whites are indeed a tad bright.
Not sure the composition works for me, I usually allow enough space for the subject's virtual legs. But I do understand your reasons for composing this way, you had those tall grasses at the bottom of the image and did not want the busy, bright FG to dominate the frame. You also liked the BG, which adds so much to this frame. I would still take some off the top if this were mine.
Subject is sharp with good detail. Love that glance back, looks as if he is saying good bye to you. Or rather "see you next week-end"
Kind regards,

Overal I personally find the composition too top heavy and moving the frame down for more of the virtual legs may have been better? Having a dark backdrop I do like as it adds separation. FG is a bit of a mess, I'm not sure if darkening in the RP helps and draws the eye more? Without seeing the raw it's hard to say, but maybe going lighter and adding some blur may defuse things more?
