Great portrait of this reddish egret. The vertical framing is right on.

David, have you updated the camera with the new Firmware?

Hi Steve,
Yes. See my post further down this page "Flaps down... Headed for home...". You can tell from the progress in updates this year, Canon released some very good AF tech HW (5665 AF point) based on video/live view) tech (DPAF) improved for still photography. From my initial impression the software was not quite ready(at release) and the processing power (of digic 8 HW) not quite there yet. I am making these assumptions based on the update improvements (4 this past year) and 30 years of experience in embedded (real time software controlling a device (for example a digital camera or lens)) software development. This and Canon's RF lens roadmap says they are all in on mirrorless and working apace on a high pixel full frame pro and later a sports/wildlife pro version.
Peace,
David

Thought I would mention it, just in case you missed it, but seems you are on the ball.
My gut feeling is that the 5DV will be the next launch and mirrorless. 1DX MKIII I doubt will be mirrorless, but launched for Pros as usual for the Olympics so they can ‘iron out’ any main glitches. Canon is lagging way behind, but could be the ‘Sleeping Tiger’. Canon man since ‘79 so hard to change brands, but Sony are steeling the thunder, however for me I will still wait a few more years before going mirrorless, that’s if I can still haul all the gear by then!

Classically executed. I like the folded crest. Only the crud at the upper base of the lower mandible bugs me.

Nice and simplistic portrait which works well! Whites are controlled well and with good details, great pattern in the background and a good eye contact.

nice soft light and the soft BG, I only wish the head was a bit more parallel to the sensor plane
