Yesterday I returned to the shore in my hometown, and got set up in amongst the rocks at low tide, hoping to get some more shots of Curlews. Same as the last time, Curlews would come into land then take off immediately, obviously seeing me. I saw this one, coming in when the sun was low in the sky. I managed to lock focus, just as he landed, and got three shots off. I wished he had come in at a better angle, with the sun directly behind me, and, his head was lifted a little, so the bill was more prominent...But hey, even getting this close to these birds I was more than happy. This is almost full frame, with slight crop for comp. I'll be back.

Sharp and a spectacular landing pose. It is a bit tight all around. Such problems! Bummer that the bill merged with the side of the neck. But still quite impressive.

Beautiful shot Will! The golden light is stunning. Nice pose, love the raised leg. I find the the dark OOF patch at the bottom distracting. The specular highlights at the top-right corner draw my eye, but I think they add an artistic flair to the image. I love the trail of water behind the bird as they give the picture a sense of depth. More room overall would be nice as mentioned above by Artie.
I'll add that I'm a massive fan of the two-toned background. Great work!
