I like the eye contact and BG in this one. I would probably go for a vertical crop to include the 'virtual' tail and sharpen the bird a bit more. Fill flash might have helped in this lighting, too.
I am with Axel on preferring a vertical pose here.It also looks like it could be sharper, especially around the eye.
Seems I always have a problem with just how much sharpening to apply. As for fill flash, I am not too sure it would have helped . If I get a shot at them again I'll take my flash (with batteries this time!) and give it a try. Thanks for looking. Never thought of a vertical crop because of the background....unwanted material there. Example shown here
