    Default Brown Bear ... splash

Hi all , another frame from the Kuril Lake in Kamtchatka . Location was a river mouth that entered the lake ...
This guy was ... no surprise ... going for salmon .
Would have liked another framing with the bear more to the left .... but the result is this one . Plus the frame is not 100 % sharp .... but acceptable at this size , IMHO .

    Canon EOS 1DxII
    EF 500 IS L II + 1,4 TC
    Tripod

    F 5,6 ; Iso 1600 ; 1/2500 sec .... i know the techs , could have been better for some improvement LOL.

Processed with DPP 4 and PSCC 2019

Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous thread

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas -- Wow , i loved the detailing inspite of it being not that sharp but at this size it works.Another lovely action moment captured well timed and framing can go here and there slightly when action happens. You have treated us with some lovely Bear images from your trip, keep them coming if you do have more.

    TFS !

Well, the RAW may not be 100% but it can't be far off as I would not have been able to tell the difference posted here - certainly looks sharp enough to my eyes.

I agree, a bit further to the left of the frame wold have been just about perfect, but the action and the frozen water droplets make up for that IMHO.

What techs wold you have preferred? Shutter speed seems high enough, and I don't think any more DoF is required

Whoa love all that splashing water. The look on the bear is great. I don't mind the bear being centered. This would have made a nice vertical. Nice and sharp with good detail.

Love the splashing water, pose, and rich tones. Great to see the leading claw. Details look good here, wouldn't have guessed it's not 100% sharp. TFS

Hi Andreas, loosing the 1.4 would have been better, primarily having more FG for the bear to run into. Certainly having the bear placed more to the LHS would be ideal, however the low POV is great, but the tightness at the foot I do feel hurts the image. Saying that, you did well to have the head clear of all the spray from the water and avoiding the AF not to lock on. The displacement of water conveys the power & surge of these bears and it's always impressive how much speed and force they generate from a stationary start.

Thanks Steve .... agree with you about the tightness at the foot and the plain 500 would have been the better option .... . But as said many times ... combo is welded together sometimes .

If you are saying that at times it is very hard to uncouple the two, I would strongly suggest you send it into Canon. I don't think it would be a huge cost, however, thinking long term, you would have far more 'WINNERS' than 'almost there' images.

I did have some issues on this recent trip with the cold and I hope it was temperature related, but have not had a chance to run some test images yet, if not the 500 goes back to Canon. You have some of the best kit Andreas, don't let a 'tech' issue dampen the results.

LOL Steve .... you got me wrong , they are welded together in my head , my habit is doing it . No technical issue .

As said previously ... i do not like to change the combo constantly in the field under some circumstances , flying sand on the beach or rainy conditions are a killer for changing the TC . So i rather stick with the combo i decided to use . In this case there had been several bears around ... some close and some more further away . And this guy did nothing for a while , all of a sudden started to run .... and came too close for a wider shot , so i just fired !!!!
Anticipation is the key , in many cases .... at times i am not patient enough to wait for the right moment and look for something else !!

    Cheers Andreas
