Cormorant in Flight

Still perhaps an instant too late and her head seeming tilted slightly away from my camera, this is the best I got out of this particular flight sequence of this Cormorant...

Nikon D5, 500mm f/5.6e PF, f/5.6, 1/4000", ISO 1000, handheld, PP in C1Pro+PS CC...

Good even golden light. I find it near impossible to get a head turn on any flying cormorant, they seem very fixed on where they are going.
Unfortunately you have a strong sharpening halo around the bird.
Try selecting the bird only and then sharpening.
There are also odd striations in the upper BG, what would they be.

On top of BG, those must be shadows of the vegetation on the other side of the pond.

I like the light but the sharpening is coarse and has causes pretty strong halos around the bird. Do you have the PP guide Artie and I wrote?

The light and pose are nice. Background is right on as well. Yes it looks over sharpened.

Thanks guys for your comments... I do now see what looks like sharpening halo. But I don't think it is due to my excessive sharpening. I think it is likely because I had used Viveza from NIK plugins on this picture to darken the BG and I had totally forgotten about it. And Viveza has apparently not properly handled the transition along the edges of the bird. I will re-edit and re-post if I get some time in future.
