Default Hippo showing his strength ...

    Attached Images Attached Images

to tell me that he is on duty of this pool .
Hi folks one from Botswana at Khwai concession . To get a low angle i left the car and got down right at the pools edge .... after a while the hippos came and checked me out .
On of them showed me his power .... as you can see in the frame .
Hope you like it , as i pushed the colors a fair bit , as well as the contrast .

    Canon EOS 1Dx
    EF 200 - 400 IS L with TC engaged ( 560 mm )
    HH

F 5,6 ; Iso 10.000 ; 1/1600 sec ; man exp and Auto Iso ; settings borderline for that action , but light was already low and i could not do more under the given lighting .

Processed with DPP 4 and PSCC 2019 ; slight crop for comp .

Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous posting

    Cheers Andreas

The open mouth is great. Low angle is nice and i like the out of focus foreground. Light looks pretty nice. Looks like a battle mark on the bottom center.

I love the low angle and the super colours Andreas, that eye, the open mouth and the wound all add drama to the scene. Nice work.

Hi Andreas -- I must say you make high ISO images look just another low iso shot, such nice details even with that high an ISO. Nice timing on the wide open mouth and that visible eye adds to the image.
Low angle just make the image so much more intimate but it has its downside as well , like the fg grass in this case, especially the one just below Hippo's jaw line. I am 50-50 on it and would have tried and kept the colours in grass a bit muted for making them less eye catching.

An interesting image Andreas, for me just a little too saturated and perhaps a little heavy., it gives me the impression it is slightly underexposed.

Thanks folks for your comments , much appreciated .

Haseeb - for me the FG is no issue , making it looking muted is no option for me , cause it would not fit to the rest . And i think in this case , it gives the image more depth because of the mushy character .

Jon - well for sure matter of taste , i like it in this instance , the heavy tones and the full saturated colors -

    Cheers Andreas

I like the concept of the capture Andreas, but like Jon, the colours are too pushed for my tastes.
