Default Blue-footed Booby raised foot dance display

This image was created on the morning of August 6, 2019, on the Galapagos Photo-Cruise of a Lifetime IPT. I used the hand held Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR lens and my souped-up Nikon D850 ISO: 500. Matrix metering at about +2/3 stop as framed: 1/500 sec. at f/5.6 in Manual mode was a slight underexposure. AUTO1 WB at seven-thirty am on a solidly overcast morning.

Three above center Single Point Continous AF was active at the moment of exposure. The selected AF point was placed on the bird’s neck, right on the same plane as its eye.

Nikon Focus Peaking fine-tune value: +4. See the Nikon AF Fine-tune e-Guide here.

As for the image, don't be shy; all comments are appreciated.

To learn more about the trip and the creation of this image, see the What a Way to Finish blog post here.

    Artie:
Hilarious pose, soft light, perfectly sharp to my eye, great.

I could see a sliver more room above because of the gaze, but truly matter of personal taste.

    Cheers.

Great dance pose. I love the color of the bill. You were fortunate to have overcast skies. Isn't it great the way they will sometimes pick a rock to show their stuff, right off of the narrow roped path.

Artie, Made me smile, what a wonderful image, all the best here, super foot up and gaze away! BG is so colorful in a soft way and the booby just shines, details are killer.

How comical. Love the tones, particularly the contrasting blues, lilacs and browns. If it were mine I would debate removing the tail.

Thanks, Colin, Though I love cleaning up images I would never consider removing the tail here as the raised tail is part f the display.

This is really, really nice. Many of the images I've seen of this species/behavior have distractions around the bird, so this clear view is special, especially on the soft pinkish-brown BG. Eye and head are beautiful. Could see with a bit more room above and left.

Like the pose and nice to see the bird in the open without any distractions. Agree to a bit more room all around. Detail and sharpness is very nice.
