Hi Will, I like the concept, but I think f/5.6 no higher, would be a better choice for the rain. Like the previous posting, the grain is too much in the LH wing as presented, are you checking your histogram and adjusting to avoid lifting the image?

Will, I think this is stunning. The rain is captured nicely against the dark sky, and I like the approaching flight position. I also like the bit of the fanned tail visible beneath the wing. Nice and sharp on the head, and a fine comp.

Hi Steve...Still getting to grips with this lens, but must say, I am impressed. I am not technically minded so, not always checking the histogram...more sort of moving the sliders in pp and watching the image, when I see it, how I want it to be, thats when I 'fine tune'. I was good at art at school, and this seems to be coming out, in the way I process. From a 'photograph' perspective I totally agree with your critique. I'll 'get there' one day BTW loving the 1dxMk2

Love the mood to this one. Nothing like a bird in the rain. Nice pose and the bird stands out very nicely against all the rain.

This worked out really well I think. Dramatic.. I don't care about noise in an image like this,
the grittiness adds to it.

Hi Will, your Histogram is your best friend, if the histogram isn't right, forget the techs, the kit, your time!!! Get the Histogram right, techs right, then there is little PP to be done, but your images will be far better, cleaner and all that hard work will pay off, it's your call.
Why spend money on that amount of kit and just throw the image away with a poorly exposed image. Sorry Will, but you are not doing yourself any favours here, just please work on getting that image well exposed by checking and adjusting the histogram and you are laughing, everything else is a walk in the park. At the end of the day, if you need to bring part of the exposure down on a well exposed image no problem, under expose and you have noise, addition NR, addition sharpening and the image doesn't look great because you have had to lift the image.

Love the raindrops and the "mood " of the image.
Gail
PS What made you buy the 1 DX2 vs waiting for the 1DX3 (rumored to be out early 2020)? I have been waiting and waiting to replace my 1 DX.

I don't mean to hijack Will's thread but what have you heard re:price on the 1DX 3?

Different it is, good too. Bird is sharp and well exposed, but the background with the rain is really interesting.
