    Hi folks ...
here i come again ... hopefully with more posts and time for editing in the coming weeks .

Starting to return with a bear shot taken at river mouth of the Kuril Lake . As stated before .... this place was bear heaven for photographers when i was there .
This fella tried to spot the salmon , but was difficult for him ...as water level was quite high due to high rainfall . But i bet he will survive with the skills he had .

    Canon EOS 1Dx II
    EF 200 - 400 IS L at 381 mm
    Tripod

F 5,6 ; Iso 5000 ; 1/1600 sec ..... a bit more SS woud not have hurt for the action ; man exp and Auto Iso

Processed with DPP 4 and PS CC 2019 ; slightly cropped and levelled .

Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous postings .

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas, this guy looks big and focused on getting that salmon. Nice pose, good colours and detail. Nicely done and TFS.

The point of view is spot on. Also like the sense of tension here. The vertical framing is nice as well. Details look great.

Hi Andreas -- Very nice image. Loved the tones, low pov, moment, your timing to get this pose, and ofcourse great field work as always. The details are all there as with all your images and good IQ as always.

I wished the reflection would have come out fully, but this is being some nit picking from me.

    Nicely done.

    TFS !

Simple yet stunning shot Andreas - perfect timing with the raised paws and the trailing water, and (no real surprise here!) beautifully presented.

I like the hint of environment in the BG - from a tech perspective did you run some NR or some form of blur on it?

Hi Andreas, pulling back a bit more I feel would give the subject a bit more room to breathe. Nice pose and I like the trailing water, but how far would you go to for more SS? Darkening the FG a fraction helps. If you ran NR I might back it off a tad. Like Alaska the BKG's are crap at times, with branches creating distracting elements, nothing you can do.

Hi folks thanks to you all for your comments much appreciated .

Mike - i only use Neat Image for NR , never use any blur filter in PS . NR in DPP disabled .
Steve - yes Neat Image was used , could temper back ....will take a closer look, if i should lower the layer opacity with the next posting. For me it looks alright though , but am always open for suggestions.

Why do you use Blur filters, what does this achieve????

if i should lower the layer opacity with the next posting
I don't think that would offer the result Andreas, I quite like a tad of 'grain' as gives a bit more authenticity to the capture, all these super smooth BKG's just makes things look false (not here).

Steve ... who do you talk to ? with your blur comment !! You cannot meant me , as i do not use the blur filters in pixel layers . Just for mask blurring etc !!

And the second one .... it would , oh come on Steve depending on the Iso rate one has to use NR at some point !!!! Luminance noise is no grain to be correct .

And checked the image the master file , still enough " grain " left in the master file for me .

    Cheers Andreas

I just saw your reply, Mike why would you use a Blur???

If you look Andreas, I said that I didn't think lowering the Opacity would help, to me it comes to the juggling the sliders, irrespective of what type of NR you use.

Late to the party, looks good to me noise well controlled. I like the pose and the head looks sharp enough to me, maybe just a hint of movement in the claws (?), but to me that is a good thing. Possibly, if cropped maybe reconsider a little less at the base and tad more at the top.

Hi Jon, putting my previous life's 'hat' on, why would you crop less at the foot and have more negative space above, as the bear is clearly looking into the river, just curious?

Well when I scroll the screen I chopped about 5-7mm off the base and thought it looked better - simple as that.

That's fine Jon, but for me - more at the foot for balance.
