This image was taken several years ago during the sculpin run in the Puget Sound region. At this time, in late June, the herons and the bald eagles are competing dramatically for the fish. They chase each other and grab fish from each other. An amazing experience but has become more like combat fishing these days.
Like how you caught the fish being positioned to go down the hatch. The image looks a little dark and the birds head is soft. Like the circular ripples in the water.
I cannot believe he is going to eat that, but these greedy buggers never cease to amaze! The elevated shooting angle isn't ideal, and there is a good deal of motion blur on the head as well. However, this shot is more about the 'wow-factor' of the meal, and for that reason it's still a very effective frame.
