Another Red Grouse image from my fave Glen. I managed to get quite close to this one as I 'stalked' the bird in amongst the heather.

Thanks Ann...this is probably the last image you will see from me with the 'old 500' I now have the Canon f/4 400mm DO Mk2, along with a Mk2 1DX, still to try them out, but looking forward to it.

Thanks Ann, yes with shoulder surgery last year, and not getting any younger, I think the 400 DO will do me well. As long as I get sunny days, to use the 2X at f/8

Hi William: I'm originally from London, but have lived in Australia since 1969. "Down under"...the word Grouse (not so often used here in recent years) is slang for "awesome". So...your photo is grouse! Love the colours and FFD. The heather is an added bonus. TFS.

The grouseman strikes again. Another great frame of this bird. Details look great. Have fun with that new gear.

Hi Will, overall I like the colours, but I just find the composition not really working for me. I feel you need more at the foot and truncating the Grouse is not ideal IMHO. I also think as presented a bit more DoF would not have hurt, backing off and having the whole subject in may have been better, albeit that you don't say if this is a crop or FF.

Remember the MK2 will have a few more options, so don't take it straight out of the box and start shooting. Good combo Mk2 & 5DIV.

Really nice details, and the background color is excellent. I might crop a bit off the right.
