Lovely "magic time" colours on these fellows Colin and you caught the baitfish at just the right angle. Also like the matching wing positions altho of you have to wish the lower bird's far wing had co-operated ...and it's head may be turned away but that tells us just what he's planning doesn't it.

The action and prey are fantastic, but the photograph suffers from exaggerated light angle (i.e. shadows) and lack of viewer connection (i.e. no eye contact). Curious how the 600 III is treating you!

Thanks for the comments. I had hoped that the action and prey would at least outweigh the obvious issues with the scene. Dorian, I am gradually getting the hang of the 600 MK III not having had the previous models. It is far more responsive than my old 400 mm 1.4 converter combo. Once I lock on a bird it is holding that even if I let it wander out of the middle of the frame which is really pleasing. Also It is generally holding that focus if for example the bird goes from open sky to a dark background. What the blurb says about weight and balance is true so lens and the 1DXII are as good as 5Kg total and perfectly balanced on the tripod mount. I just haven't had any good weather/light opportunities to really show it off. Winter here so short days and low sun angle.

The fish is fabulous and the action is great but the off-angled light kills it for me :(
