A male keeping watch over two of the three nestlings (the third is hidden from view tucked comfortably inside the cavity. I photographed this nest for two complete mornings, and not once did I see the female come to the nest - only the male. I'm thinking she has perished, as in other years that I have observed flickers' nest both parents would share duties. I have to day that the male did a wonderful job! The nest was difficult to see, and although not apparent this was photographed through a keyhole between trees and leaves.
