Default African Wild Dog or 'African painted hunting dog'

On the outskirts of our camp was a pack of African Wild Dog, and so this was taken just after lunch when the pack were playing in the tall grass. This one was just looking on as three others were just burning off some excess energy and play tag with one another.

Thanks to those who posted or viewed on the last posting.

    Dear Steve,

Wonderful image of this wild dog, perfect HA and such lovely proud pose Good thinking on techs, frame well exposed and DoF spot on, nice separation between subject and background.

Colours look natural and there's good detail on the WD's face, sharpness is there in good measure. You've allowed enough space for the virtual legs, even though they were hidden in tall grass

Enjoyed viewing, very much - any frames of the others playing, would love to see! I am still searching for something to process from the week-end, just cannot find something I am 100% happy with, LOL.
Hope you enjoy the rest of the week, thank you for sharing

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Nice one Steve in what looks like challenging lighting conditions. Good background and I like the texture of the long grasses. Composition and detail works (in both HLs and SH). Nice to see some of the light hitting the eye too. TFS

Very nice image Steve , I really like these kind of settings. The soft bkg created by the swirling grass creates a pleasant scene. Very nice details and again you have handled the light very well. i wish for some more space in the direction it is looking, a bit too centered for my taste.

    Nice image. TFS !

The beauty of a fixed lens Haseeb.

Thanks Haseeb, but I can't see how it's centred as the head is beyond the centre line and you have roughly a third to the RHS and two thirds to look into on the left? You have puzzled me here?

Hi Steve a nice and solid image of this beautiful species .
You have managed to get a great deal of details under the lighting conditions , well exposed i think .
Technically well done and framing is nice .
But for me , albeit all the details , the dog looks lifeless in tone and color , almost as flat as a shot taken in low light ..... just my take. But your view is different .
You got lucky with the grass in the BG ...not much of disturbance by them .

And at 1/2000 sec there will be no grass swirling ....

    TFS Andreas

Great pose on the wild dog. Love that alert tension. The light is what it is. Details look great. Nice and sharp. Nice the dog is clear of the those grasses.

@ Steve - Rather wrong choice of word i should say , but what i mean is the space provided on both sides of the Dog is almost similar though more on the lhs but i would have liked some more space in the direction it is looking.

A nice image of the wild dog Steve! They are such magnificent creatures. The composition is OK with me and the proud pose is great.

Bright light will create paler colours Andreas, you need to wait for the Golden hour to get what you are after.

    No worries Haseeb.

    Many thanks sanjeev.

Steve no need of Golden hour , just a question of taste and processing . Without going overboard for sure in post .
Not sure about your words , colors being pale when the light is bright . in every light situation colors are appearing different , depending on the time of shooting . We have it in our hands how to portray it .

Having the musk ox in mind .... in the lovely fall colors , in somewhat bright light ( i guess cloudy skies ) ... so i think , it is just matter of taste
