Nice one John!
Those birds are too cool! You captured the beauty of those breast feathers nicely. I like the vertical comp and the pose too. Great shades of green and nice too see a low shooting angle.
I do wish you could see the feet of the bird and that the light was a little less harsh. I think the image would benefit from adding a a bit more cotrast to the bird itself and to darken the blacks. I would also remove the bright straw just below the bird to the left.

A very nice rendition of this fellow's colours John---it's set off perfectly by the shade of greens in the grass and the way the blades fade away out of focus in there BG. It's great to get a really good view of his beard too----the crisp silvery strands show up beautifully.

I love the curious pose - this fella sees you alright! Not much you can do about the feet with the tall grass, for that reason that is not an issue for me. I'd get rid of what appears to be a small insect next to the head. There is also a horizontal pale line across the BG just above the head that catches my eye. Good call on the vertical comp with this pose and size of bird in the frame.
