Nice pose and light. Having never seen an Australian Pelican, I didn't realize they were so pale.

At present Artie, but their numbers in the east fluctuate depending on breeding opportunities in the far west of the east Australian coast. When large ephemeral lakes flood pelicans just seem to know from thousands of kilometers away and they rise on thermals to up to 3000 meters and glide their way out there to breed in huge colonies.

Hey Colin, Thanks for the link. I read it with interest. A map would be a great addition. Do you know if any of the breeding colonies are photographically accessible? Or if there are some places along the coast where the birds can be photographed in breeding plumage? I am considering a bucket list visit ...
