Back to my favourite Glen again... Usual scenario, drive slowly, spot a Red Grouse, park up, crawl towards the bird, in amongst the heather... then wait for them coming towards me. Usually works when you have a territorial male like this one. No bait nor audio used. Handheld, ACR and PS2019.

Will it doesn't look like this fellow was about to put up with any nonsense of a photographer crawling around in his roost. You caught lovely crisp focus on this one and the colours are spectacular. I'm wondering how you got this clean BG in heather and shooting from so low down.

Bob nice portrait, colors and BG are nice, very sharp but seems a tad crunchy on the neck area.

IQ and details are excellent Will.
I love the DOF from tip of bill to the gorgeous eyebrows- they look like awnings raised over the eyes!
When my images have this HA where the eyes are not quite "dead-on" I am never quite sure if I like it. I always feel I should see only 1 eye or that both eyes need to be perfectly identical.
However, when I look at this image I wonder why I feel that way, because I like this very much.
Nice POV, great clean BG and nice light.
Comp is a bit unusual but works here.

Terrific details, and beautiful soft BG to nicely separate the subject from it. Good light and colours as well. I'd be OK with the subject a tiny bit more to our left in the frame, but not by much more.

Wonderful close-up... love the colors and background. Feather detail is spot on. Thank you for sharing, Will.
