Hi folks ...make a quick turn to the bears again .
The image of this young cub , carrying a salmon that he caught ... LOL ... on his own was taken on Kamtchatka in 2018 . The group of photographers waited at a river mouth that was flowing into the famous Kuril lake , in hope that bears would appear . So over the day various bears had the same idea .... they just waited for the salmon .
We mostly had luck with the sightings ... even bears with small cubs appeared on the scene , well stayed mostly short as mummy´s were quite nervous due to the presence of some other bears .

We all had to laugh about this little guy carrying this salmon for a while to make the salmon ....SAFE !!!

Processed with DPP 4 and PSCC 2019 ; the original framing was really off ......due to operator stupidity . So this is a relative large crop for me .... about 60 % of the original file . Little gardening in the FG .

Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous posting .

    Cheers Andreas

A fun image for sure Andreas and this typifies why I like Bears, especially cubs as they are so mischievous.

As presented having Mum adds context, but I'm not sure if she dominates the scene or, if it would have been better if you just had the cub, I'm just not sure on this one Andreas. I like it, but that is because of the fun element.

I think it was wise to have your focus on the cub here Andreas--the look in her eyes and perked up ears are priceless. It's amazing that she was able to carry this big sockeye as she ran ( the flying sand/gravel and 2 paws off the ground give that away ) up beside Mum, what with only having a firm grip on the dorsal fin.

Thanks Steve and Bob for your comments , much appreciated .

Steve - for sure i would have liked to have mum not in the frame , instead having the second ( hidden ) cub running with the first one after the fish . But mother nature gave me this option ... . And so i overlook the dominant mum .... and still like it though , as the cub wit the fish is priceless good for me. Not a winner shot for sure , as the shortcoming is obvious .

We all have to seize the moment Andreas, come what may and better to have something than not at all. As I said, I like it, but the priceless cub & fish I just feel is a little lost with Mum so close and big, its just one of those things that I find hard to express sadly.

Looks like it is maybe too young to be eating solids, but good practice. Kicked up sand shows his effort.

Agree mummy bear is a little distracting but then when you look at it again you tell yourself she adds context. I like the image very much, I suspect most photographers on this forum would wish they had something similar. I think it is one of those images better enjoyed than over-criticised after all when you concentrate on the cub you don't really notice mummy bear that much do you?

    Hello Andreas,

This must be one of the most special and unforgettable sightings from your trip - glad you shared with us! Pose and expression from this gorgeous little bear just priceless, he looks so proud and kind of " protective" over his salmon

Indeed Mom tends to dominate the scene to some extent due to size and also, proximity to the cub...But nothing you could do about it, Boetie.

Nice techs and I think you processed this very well, emphasising as much detail as possible on the little one and his "prey". Colours and tonality look great, lovely work Boetie!

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

What a fish that little one has. A great moment you have captured here. I don't mind that the mom is out of focus. The main attraction is the little one with that big fish.

Hi Andreas -- I really like the content and the cub with salmon is a priceless moment. This indeed makes for a great viewing and I agree with Jon that I too would have gone for this moment inspite of Mum being slightly dominant in the BKG, It really makes a great frame IMO. Very nice field and PP work , details are superb as always . Loved it.

    TFS !

Fascinating to see the little one with the salmon almost the size of the cub! I like the framing and the mother doesn't bother me and gives a measure of the size of the little one! Good one Andreas!

A mischievous and fun image here Andreas, I'm a bit 50/50 on mum in the BG, but let's face it, it's not as if that was a any consideration at the time this image was captured, well seen indeed!

    TFS
