    A full-frame image of this beautiful species photographed in late April when the males still look good before they begin looking worn from the breeding season and then molt into eclipse plumage.

    Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/320s., f/5.6, ISO 1600, natural light, handheld, FF. Attracted to seeds.

    Amazing palette, and a great job given what looks like pretty low light conditions. I like the water running down the breast. A bit more DOF would have helped but light was not in your favor.

    Very nice portrait.
    I like the IQ and your choice of crop.
    Nice HA and clean BG. Exposure is perfect on the whites and the bright area on the bill. So easy to blow them out.
    Too bad you could not get an F stop of 7.1 or 8 just to "tighten up" the feather ponytail!

    A really nice close-up of this guy Daniel! I enjoy the colors in the background, the composition and the great exposure.
    I do agree that a deeper DOF would have helped this frame as those head feathers are so typical for the species.

    Fancy. Bang on portrait of this male. Like the few water drops on the breast. Good luck getting close to one of these guys in my local.

    Lovely Dan, perfecto but buttoned up at F8 would have been top shelf!
