Not the cleanest of images I know, but just getting a glimpse of this bird is no easy feat. I have been trying for years to get a photograph of this rare bird. They are probably the most elusive and rarest birds that breed in Scotland. I think this is the first posting of one on BPN. I captured it on my recent trip to the Outer Hebrides. Their habitat is dense vegetation, and although, you can hear their call, they almost never show. I got lucky. I was driving along a small track with the window open when I heard one calling, it's a very distinctive sound. I stopped the vehicle, and couldn't believe one was out in the open. The light etc was against me, and I managed a few shots, for the 30 seconds it showed, before it disappeared into the undergrowth again. What a great moment it was.

    Will:

Congrats on your spotting the bird, and capturing it. I certainly have never seen a picture of this species before.

I think you did very well under the conditions, and I don't mind the habitat being a bit busy. The only change for me would be to clone out the single blade of grass that intersects with the head.

    Cheers

What a cool find and certainly an image worth getting. You did very well given the environment and light. Love the strutting pose and the look. TFS

Congrats on getting this one. Sounds like no easy feat. Neat looking bird with a neat name to go along. Nice and sharp.

Congratulations on a great opportunity with this rarity. The habitat is what it is, and you certainly had no control over that...but what you did have control over yielded a more than acceptable image of a sighting I am sure you will not forget.
