John you are making me subjective, I have seen a lot of these white tails and many have been excellent, but this one doesn't stand out for me. Technically colours etc nothing to criticise to any great extent, the problem for me is that you have submitted several better images in terms of posture composition and behaviour. Having said that I think it is a very pleasant shot.
I hope this doesn't sound unpleasant or unappreciative, it is not meant to be.
Hi John, again another pleasing image, I like the framing and the techs look good too. I think it just needs some separation in colour so you have the subject and then the habitat. Daunting I know, but using the Green slider in HSL to various degrees and using a Graduate filter in LR will help give a bit more to the FG. This is the hard part, but hopefully fun because exploring and see what each element can do, will then in time help you be more selective in what tools are required.
You have come a long way in the last few months just keep working as the rewards are certainly showing.
The RP is in part, a little OTT, but probably somewhere between the two, however I'm trying to illustrate more of the change that can be achieved without too much 'fiddling' as someone once said.

Hi John -- I definitely agree with the above, you have posted some very pleasing images recently and this one is another lovely image. I like what Steve has done in his RP but for me it should be something between your Op and Rp. Nice light .
TFS !
Hi John ... indeed a nice one , better than the previous from the content POV .
Subject stands out very nice ....
Steve has shown you a way how the image can look ...as he said himself a bit OTT .
