    Default Northern Gannet in Snowstorm

Bringing nesting material back to the rookery. Taken on the Langanes Peninsula of Iceland several weeks ago. Conditions were abysmal, and I eventually had to abandon the pursuit of these beautiful birds when my fingers became painfully cold and the wind/snow made it tough to acquire and maintain focus.

I was there not 15 feet from you and Joanne, so I can attest to the rough conditions. As you turned to leave describing the condition you were in, I was thinking I could hang in a bit longer but the light was mostly direct full sun and not much of the nice defused overcast/clouds such as you had in this excellent capture. Great that you got one with the nesting material, full wing outstretch, clear eye, perfect snow, and good shade of grey ocean. Well done.

Excellent, worth the cold fingers... Nice topside and the snow is well done.

Wowsa Bill, this is a wonderful image, congrats. Love the snow, nesting material, and outstretched wings. I hope Gail and I have some snow as well!

I really like this Bill. Lovely view of this beautiful bird. Nice control of the whites considering the weather conditions. The snow adds. I need to get out to the Bass Rock soon and photograph these birds.

Pretty sweet frame. Love the snow and the bird against the darker water. Composition looks spot on as well.

This is awesome with the snow!
    A really nice image.
And I do NOT want snow when I am in Iceland! Had enough here in Nova Scotia this winter!

Thanks Gail. I think you're safe; apparently we happened on an unusual cold snap during our trip.
