    Default Satin Bowerbird (female)

    Hi all,
Spent three days at Binna Burra, (https://www.binnaburralodge.com.au/ around 90 mins south of Brisbane. Despite the cold weather with even colder winds I was able to get a few keepers. This female Satin Bowerbird (a lifer for me) was spotted on this rock in front of the sky lodge building (accommodation), and so the background was terrible mixture of building colours. I used Photoshop to (hopefully) provide a contrast to the bird by using the dominant background colour of the building behind the roof, as a background. Photoshop was also used to remove minor colour noise, the new texture slider in acr and the Nik 50/50 recipe at 20% were also used selectively on the bird.
    7Dii, 100-400mm at 400mm, 1/250th sec, f5.6, iso400, hand-held in AV mode.

Great bird. Love that eye. Very nice light.
Your PP looks pretty good as well.

Black Background really helps. I would burn the bright part of the image slightly...

    Love the beautiful blue eyes.

A dramatic presentation--I think your BG workup worked well.I might try it with slightly less exposure on the brighter parts of the bird .

Thank you all for the feedback. I was actually on my way to one of the many walks at Binna Burra, when I spotted the bird as I left our sky lodge, so it was a rather quick grab so to speak. The background was a mix of dark and bright white panels, which made a really poor background.
Gail: Thank you...next time you're "down under" it's worth a visit!
Krishna: black background? it is a bluish BG...unless you are suggesting a black BG would be better?
    Bob: Yes, I think you're right here...may re-edit the highlights...cheers.

My first though was whoa what an eye. The light looks nice and really like the darker background. Very neat looking bird.

Sharp right where it needs to be and a great job on the BG (from this non-pixel-peeper). I like the spotlight effect and might just choose the eye for a slight contrast boost to really make it pop (even slightly more, that is). The eye is the star here and you imaged it well. TFS

Thanks so much David. I have actually fixed the highlights issue that Bob suggested, but will take another look at the eye. Cheers.

Yes to pretty good post-proceesing as the BKGR looks just fine. And you did well with the off-angled light. And the rock looks to much like a rock wall for me ...
