    Hi folks ...
Have not posted a Hippo image for ages , i think , as i do not have many .
So here you go , one image taken last year in Botswana in the Khwai concession . Was able to get out of the vehicle .... for a slightly better shooting angle .
Image taken in late light .... but i pushed things a bit in terms of color and tone .
I do really like the visible eyes .... checking the area while posing with the open jaw .

    Canon EOS 1Dx
EF 200 - 400 with TC engaged at 560 mm
    HH

    F 5,6 ; Iso 10.000 ; 1/ 1600 sec ; man exp and Auto Iso

Processed with DPP 4 and PSCC 2019 ; slight crop due to levelling the frame .

Thanks for looking and commenting to my previous posting .

    Cheers Andreas

Good all round, from processing to techs, good to see you left the 500 combo behind. In terms of framing it needs more below its just too close at the foot.

slight crop due to levelling the frame .
Can't remember, doesn't the 1DX have a Electronic level you can enable in the viewfinder, or treat yourself to the Flexline ball head.

Thanks Steve ... agree about the space at the foot , bit more would have been better !!!

The 1dx has no level in the VF , just one at the backside display . And i am asking myself .... how would your Super Duper ball head work ....... when shooting HH . Must find that out .... maybe you can help me with that .

    Cheers Andreas

Lovely the way the late side light illuminates all the lower teeth and bristles on this fellow's nose Andreas. Where do you put there focus points on an image like this?--my guess w/b the upper lip where the bristles are so sharp?

Wonderful image Andreas, love the pose here and POV is superb. Great detail from whiskers to those wild eyes to that big mouth and its zig zag tongue. I see the TC is still glued in this instance with great effect

I understand about the tightness at the bottom of the frame, nothing you can do about that. Well processed and I love those vibrant colours, especially on the sunlit side of the subject - lovely work Boetie!

    Kind regards,

What a view of that mouth and those teeth. Details look great for the high ISO. Light is nice as well. Nice you can see both eyes.

Great capture of the display, nice details. Just a bit tight in the frame.

Hi Andreas -- I loved the light and low pov, that open mouth is intimidating for sure. Nice details and colours look very natural to me. Agree on tightness at base of the frame.

Hi folks thanks to all of you who commented lately ... much appreciated .

Well again i see it not that dramatic with the tight base ... but for more visual options i would agree with you about more space at the foot , would be better .

    Thanks Andreas
