I have just returned from a great trip to the Outer Hebrides. If you ever get the chance to visit these islands on the West coast of Scotland, I would highly recommend it. If your very lucky you can even photograph Corncrake..One of Scotlands rarest and very elusive birds. I captured this Oystercatcher, on the 'Machair'..Machair refers to a fertile low-lying grassy plain found on part of the northwest coastlines of Ireland and Scotland, in particular the Outer Hebrides. The best examples are to be found on North and South Uist, Harris and Lewis....70% of the worlds machair is on the Outer Hebrides.

Outstanding flight pose.. about as food as it gets..
    Sharp and nice exposure.
The blacks are a bit brown I think.

Thanks Dan...It was the light that caused the colours, they were 'browner', and I added some black to them.

This must be about the best angle to show of this spectacular bird. Great capture, the light looks nice and soft.

You knocked this one out of the park Will! Excellent dorsal view. Just a bit of shadowing on either side of the tail and to look after, but wow what a beautiful image!

WOW and Wow! You absolutely nailed this one!
I agree with Daniel about the shadowing and wonder about the greys in the whites.
    Well done,

Gosh Will, this is awesome! So sharp and so much detail.

And what a great pose - shows it at it's best.

Very well done; you've come a long way with your photography!

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated. Here is the original RAW, where the 'blacks' are brown, because of the light conditions at the time.

This looks more like the ones in my area..
quick redo in photoshop, used Camera raw to set white balance.
Quality is not near as good as the original, obviously.

I see where you are coming from with this Dan, but, it don't represent the colours I seen at the time of capture.

The image in pane 10 looks natural but the whites are blown. the recovery attempt in the image in pane 1 made the whites grey and the blacks unnatural. I would reprocess this one without any highlight shadow recovery

Besides a little tweak in white balance and
temperature, this is a total Rockstar!!
One of the best I have seen of this species.
I agree, you have come a long way!!

Will, great job at getting this bird so extended, never seen a shot like this of an oystercatcher, just a bit of adjustment in the WB and you're set.
