This was a lifer for me, spotted on Thursday in Pocomoke State Park in MD. I spent a lot of time with this guy waiting for him to perch on this particular branch. Shot with my Canon 1DX and 600mm f/4 IS II at f/4, ISO 400, 1/640th. Minimal processing in Lightroom to control highlights and shadows and a few adjustment layers in Photoshop to remove some green color cast from the bird. Slight crop for composition, still about 90% of the original frame. Thanks for looking!

Anthony nice shot, wish the HA was better, I like the environment but would prefer a tighter crop, the OOF twigs in the foreground are a bit of a distraction but that couldn't be helped.
Congrats on your first sighting of this species! I like the comp as is, but I agree with a better head angle. I also find the yellows too bright and "neon". Other than that, good job on the whites and the blacks, and the image looks sharp where needed.
Sharp with a good EXP but angle to the bird is too steep and the head angle hurts as noted above ...
with love, artie

Thanks for all the feedback! The head angle is definitely the one thing that really bugged me about the shot right after I took it, so close to being just right. Motivation to keep going for the perfect shot though I guess. And yeah I’ll be posting a bunch more, I’ve been shooting a ton lately and I’m finally getting caught up on editing. Thanks again!
