Really love this canvas, Joe(no surprise)... Being wide open and right on that eye makes it soft and smooth(incl. BG) and accentuates that eye. TFS

A striking image Joe, with an amazing feel of fluffiness in the head & neck whites. Did the new texture slider in LR play any part in achieving that? I like the tone of grey you've got for the BG too---sets the greys and whites of the bird off beautifully. A common bird presented most artistically.

Always love photographing the gulls. Detail on the bird looks very nice. Like the look back pose as well.

Hi Joe, different with an almost monochromatic look, but I'm not sure it's floating my book sadly.

I might be tempted to take a fraction off the RHS, however the beak just tailing off, perhaps a tad more DoF may have helped ie f/7.1 as you had ISO, or backing off a bit more in distance? Overall it has a 'sooty' look, inherent of LR and what it does behind the scenes and their crazy profiles, however... perhaps backing off in Contrast may help???? I would up the exposure by at least a third of a stop and add a tad more sharpening.

Texture, be very carful Joe, the name does not imply what it does, but if you get to grips with Texture, Clarity & Dehaze and work them correctly, then the addition is a good one for once!

Hope the RP helps clarify what I have said.

Hi Steve, thank you for viewing, commenting and the edit to show your suggestions. It was a sooty morning, heavy overcast, dreary. I can see that raising the exposure helps, will do and also revisit the sharpening. If I use clarity and dehaze only a small setting, most times just 5. Texture I am still getting used to, I have tried the default of 25. Also read about what it does to understand how to use it. Thanks again.

Hi Joe, I still think it's a little bit 'Contrast/sharpening' based, but in some instances couple with the other two, it does actual work, so for once LR may have added a useful feature. Clarity, once you get the LR Contrast stuff out the way, then adding Clarity in part, does help, but again, not all images require it, this is why there isn't a silver bullet to PP, it's just understanding what the image needs to achieve the end goal and if you don't need to add the 'Kitchen sink', don't, the less you put in, often the image responds back far more positively.

Two questions: how do you float a book and what is a sooty morning? That asked, I like the image in Pane #5 best of all.
