Agree on the slight blurring for the bg !! For this would have gone wide open to minimize bg detail ..... that lens is plenty good wide open. Also I think the sharpest point of focus is on the back not the eye !!!
The bird looking away does not bother me since he is doing the nice behavior !!! I like it a lot !!!
Pefect timing. Alfred, he was wide open (400 2.8 plus 2X TC), but I do agree that that BKGR looks wierd (bad Boken). Sharp on the eye but lots of problems... Tail clipped. Top of the head is in shadow. Filtered light. Sun/Shadow/Sun.... And lastly the distracting bright thing lower right.
