Just superb topside view on a hard bird to catch. Congrats TFS
Nice dorsal view of this little speedster. Like the composition and the pose. Background is nice as well.
Great capture of this little guy, I like the slightly open bill.
Excellent topside view. This is a very difficult shot to get. I am impressed!
There is a lot of noise on the bird so I would address that.
Nice clean BG and good HA.
The IQ on the tail looks great but not so much on the rest of the bird. Is this a big crop? Where was the focus point?
Gail
Thanks Gail.
It is a tough shot but not that hard.. I spent about 30
minutes trying to get a flight frame of this species
I will do better nest time.
Full frame Raw File.
Bird is not super sharp but I thought acceptable.
Noise is because it is iso2000, it was not great light.

These guys are really fast. You did well with the conditions: dorsal view, HA, flight angle all very nice. Might benefit from just a touch of DE and selective sharpening.
solid topside frame of the killdeer. I also wish it was a tad sharper but I think the AF was dead on, the shutter speed was a bit too low to freeze this fast flier. I would use at least 1/3200sec for this kind of shot

Nice capture Dan!! The topside pose and HA look great but the low light, slower SS and high ISO have all degraded the frame a little. To me the image has a green/brown cast that looks like it was created during PP. It looks like the AF hit the mark it's just all the other factors that make this a challenge to process.
I started off with your full frame file and did what I would normally do to a shot like this in low light. Imagine if this were in full sun! It would be awesome!! It would be more detailed and would have tons more color.
My theory with processing low light files is to build up details, darks and whites, and to add color to get it a little closer to where it might be on a sunny day.
Here I selected the bird from the BG, then I inversed the selection and reduced the exposure on the BG quite a bit. Then used levels on the bird only to bring up the darks and lights. Then I added saturation globally as it helped the BG too. Sharpening and NR to finish it off. A little looser comp always helps with an image that might have a little noise or be a little softish.
Obviously it would be a lot better with the full RAW file and the whites would be better but this should give you an idea of where I was going.
Keep em coming!! You are getting much better at BIF stuff!!
