Taken in Daintree, Queensland, Australia. Cloudy day.
I was thrilled to find a little flock against this great BG. They are usually in messy environment, on the ground and I believe somewhat nocturnal.

Small crop ~75% FF. I cloned out 1 blade of grass that reached up towards the chest. Wish for a better head turn by this was the best I got.
Comments and critiques always appreciated and learned from with thanks,

The muted tones of this beauty against that colorful BG really works for me. Love the low angle and the details. Only wish for slightly more of a head turn but I really love it as is. TFS

    Gail:

Nice shooting angle, soft pops of color in bg, exposure.

Head angle is effective if not perfect.

    Well composed.

    Cheers

Tastefully thought out composition, and I like the overcast light quality, Gail. Great looking Curlew eye, and I too think the head turn is just right.

Looks good to me, Gail. Long legs on this bird, nice colorful background. Thank you for sharing.

Really like this lanky Bush Stone, with this pose, perfect head turn, and fabulous BG to balance your composition. Sharp, and well exposed. Love his eye.

I like the bird a lot...The BG is pretty but I think the reds could be toned down..
    They are attractive but overpowering..

Long legs on this one. Pretty interesting looking bird. The background is nice. Sharpness is there.

You did really well to get this guy out in the open with a good background. They are certainly nocturnal. During the day they sit under the cover of bushes, or along fence lines. I see them in good numbers in the school grounds in Daintree. When disturbed they stand fairly still with their bodies angled away from the intruder, looking back without a full head turn. If you try to get a better angle they compensate. You nailed the 'sentry' pose! Had to laugh when I saw you post this, I had a pair spent they day in my front yard yesterday. Could only get headshots as they would always move to the other side of the bushes as I slowly moved about.

This works very well for me. Excellent pose, head turned, detail, depth of field. The bright red flowers in the background pull my eye a little but I the level of saturation to be okay. I might just darken the brightest red flowers so that they are fairly even with respect to the majority of red out of focus flowers

Great to photograph a bird that few of us will ever see. The dark above/light below background does not work for me in general and that it the case here.
