    Default Wilson's Phalarope

Over the past couple of days, I've gotten some of my closest encounters ever with a group of Wilson's Phalaropes. Although good sized for a Sandpiper, they are very small, so it's not easy to get a lot of pixels on them. Fortunately for me, this group of six is not concerned in the slightest with my presence. Wilson's Phalaropes are somewhat unusual in that the females have the most beautiful plumage during the breeding season. This female struck a nice pose for me as she swam by.

Lovely reflection and love the wake. Great bird.
I would evict the extra catchlight and the one in the reflection.
Whites on throat are bright but I think you could tame them fairly easily.
The feathers on the front of neck look a bit crunchy to my eye- perhaps a bit too much sharpening?
A nice frame that could be superb with a bit of TLC in PP.

Doug, I checked your exposure it's spot on (according to an action that shows solids), the colors are nice and the eye reflection is up to the shooter IMO.
I wish we had these cute little guys here in So. CA.

Phalaropes are pretty spectacular little birds...
Love the colors, and the whites look fine. Shooting any waterfowl in full sun is just
a balance I think, almost impossible to get blacks and whites both correct.
It looks like a nice balance.
I looks unlevel to me but the beaks line up....
Nice angle, low enough to look good and high enough to get reflection.

Thanks for the critique Gail. I'll be sure and let Kristin know! Very little sharpening applied in post (amount-50, radius-0.4); I think the feathers just look that way.

Lovely frame. Really like that reflection. The color on the bird is very nice. Sharpness is excellent.

Love these little spinners. Great shot of this guy and the details and exposure look good over here. Yes to removing the second catch but that's a personal thing. Well done buddy

Oh boy, she's a beauty! I love the ripples in the water, and the overall IQ looks great. I'd be OK with about double the current amount of space at bottom edge for the reflected head. Good stuff man!

Beautiful Image. We have lots of Wilsons and Red necked Phalarope in Salt Lake, but they are generally not that close ...

I like the reflection may be add a bit of canvas at the bottom.

very nice Doug, the details and exposure look good on my NEC. the only thing you could ask for was a perfectly sharp reflection but I'd take this in a heart beat.
